Occasional Table with Butterfly Keys
The inspiration for this occasional table came as I was walking through my sawyer’s wood shed. Lying against the wall was a piece of American cherry with a mark indicating it wasn't for sale. It was badly checked along the length, but otherwise it was a beautiful board full of natural character.
The table top began as a single piece of wood, rived through the checks to create two halves. These were cleaned, then reassembled and secured using sliding dovetails where the shoulders meet the table top and butterfly keys to keep spacing between the halves fixed. Much of the original character of the wood is on display, from its rich color to the exposed knot to the discoloration in the shoulders.
This occasional table will make a strong statement in any living room or office.
Please note this table is only available for local pickup or delivery within the greater Chicago area.
